Accompanying textHo`olana, or "floating", is a free-standing, large format abstract representation in hammered copper sheet; using large, hollow crescent and flaring vertical sculptural elements to define shapes and negative spaces of sky suggestive of Hawaiian sailing canoes. The generally rectangular sheets of hammered copper are joined with broad bands of brass brazing rods. The crescent shapes and three vertical legs intersect and join near the base of the sculpture. The sculpture is resting and is anchored to a gray, exposed aggregate, poured concrete plinth above a slightly recessed concrete base.
