Accompanying text"Material Calculations" was made using a variety of handmade papers. Some papers were mixed and dried by the artist herself, and others were handmade by commercial sources. All papers were cut, woven, torn, and then pieced together. The resulting sheet was then shaped over a form using acrylic paints and mediums to achieve the desired structure and surface embellishment. Other elements were later added to the form, to complete this mixed media fiber construction. Through this piece, artist Lori Uyehara comments upon the intertwining of artistic disciplines, and the ever-expanding exploration of traditional and non-traditional fabrication methods.
