Accompanying textBorn in Japan in 1941, Mayumi Oda has made Hawai‘i her home since 2000. Over the years, Buddhism and feminism have been a consistent and steady influence on her artwork, along with her strong bond with nature. Morning Breath, My Breath is a self-portrait of the artist in her garden. As both an artist and an activist, Oda has spent her life creating vibrant paintings and prints of female deities with bold lines and colors. Exhibiting nationally and internationally, her artwork is in numerous private and permanent collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
