Accompanying textThe uliʻuli is a traditional Hawaiian feathered gourd rattle used as a percussion instrument in hula. Jennifer Wood is a hula dancer trained by Kumu Michael Pili Pang and Kumu Leinaʻala Jardin Pavao. She has been creating unique, contemporary uli'uli for 10 years, with many of her designs inspired by nature. About Heat: Fiery Uli'uli, the artist states, “This extra-large ʻuliʻuli was created for the MAMo fashion show. Inspired by the fiery heat of a volcano and the rays of the setting sun, energy radiates outwards with the energy of the hula dancer.”
