Accompanying textKate Kelly was a sculptor, printmaker and photographer. Born and raised in California, she studied at the Partington School of Art in San Francisco, where she met the painter and printmaker John M. Kelly. The couple married in 1908 and moved to Hawai'i in 1923, where they continued to make artwork, as well as making many friends in the community, while entertaining and enjoying island life. These intimate, historic photographs of lei sellers by Kelly are from the 1930s and were taken around Aloha Tower.
